IMARHAN live in Athens
Hosted by Gazarte

IMARHAN stands as one of the most significant and pioneering ensembles in contemporary Tuareg music. They deliver hypnotic desert blues rhythms, African grooves and contemporary psychedelic bursts. Since their founding in 2006 in Tamanrasset, southern Algeria, they have continuously expanded the boundaries of traditional assouf and desert blues, drawing inspiration from Tuareg culture, funk, psych rock and pan-African rhythms. Their extensive touring has led to collaborations with artists including Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals, Howe Gelb of Giant Sand and Kurt Vile, building an audience well beyond world music circles. Their Athens performance coincides with their fourth album, Essam, marking a new creative era that has garnered critical acclaim from outlets including MOJO, Uncut, The Guardian and Songlines. The album maintains focus on Tuareg stories, memories and identity while enriching their sound with electronic elements and atmospheric arrangements.
