PATRIARKH, the new incarnation of Batushka, bring one of contemporary black metal's most ambitious and atmospheric works to Athens. After five years of creative silence since the acclaimed Hospodi, they unveil the concept album Prophet Ilja (Prorok Ilja), a work transcending a traditional metal record to function as a complete musical and theatrical narrative. Their music maintains the distinctive blend of Orthodox liturgical music, black and doom metal established by Batushka, enriched with folk influences, neofolk aesthetics, cinematic orchestrations and symphonic elements. Traditional instruments including tagelharpa, hurdy-gurdy, mandocello and hammered dulcimer meet polyphonic choirs, Byzantine motifs and orchestral arrangements, creating one of recent European metal's most multifaceted releases.
